The purpose of these newsletters is to provide free security advice to the local community. This months newsletter gives an example of our free security survey. During January we were asked to carry out a security survey by Mr & Mrs Pegg, an elderly couple who were just moving into a bungalow in Nottingham, they wanted to be sure that their new home was as secure as possible. There was some work to be done immediately and we made some recommendations, we left Mr & Mrs Pegg with a free no obligation quote for the further works.
The starting point of the survey was to check the window and door security. The UPVC windows were in good condition and all the locking mechanisms were working fine, so there was no need for any improvements there, but the previous owners had not left any keys to lock the windows, we were able to supply the customer with keys for their existing locking handles for minimal cost.
The property had a UPVC front door and a timber back door, our engineer advised changing the locks in both doors as having just moved in they did not know who else had keys for these doors. We changed the Euro Cylinder in the front door, and replaced a Union 3 lever sash lock in the back door with a 5 lever British Standard sash lock, which brought them in line with the insurance standard. We also fitted some additional security in the form of 2 rack bolts to the back door. The total cost of the new locks and additional security was £110 fitted.
At the side of the property there was an open passageway between the house and garage leading to the rear of the property. We suggested a wrought iron gate to restrict access to the rear and a simple security light on a sensor facing the driveway. Both where installed within one week of our visit.
